Auto Paint Stones

I found this image on next nature.com - the article is about auto paint stones. These stones are layers of paint made in old car factories and only took a few years to form. I stumbled onto this looking for something inspiring and found these stones so beautiful. They're like marbles but bigger and way more cooler. Some of the patterns remind me of tree rings but more vibrant and colourful! They also reming me of galaxies and give a mysterious mood. I think this pattern could be interpreted onto the body to create an inhuman specie. It would be like painting the form of the galaxy onto the body to make an alien!

Tattoos and Piercings

There are a variety of different opinions on tattoos and piercings. I think tattoos are a more extreme than piercings because if you don't like your tattoo it's permanent and harder to get rid of but if you don't like your piercing then you can just take it out even though it will leave small but not noticeable scarring. People have tattoos and piercings to give them something unique about themselves or because they think it looks good. Tattoos have a lot of meaning and depth behind them as to why the person got them which I do like the idea of but could never imagine getting one myself because I know I'd hate it after 5 minutes. I had my ears pierced when I was very young but wouldn't think of ever getting more piercings than maybe on my belly button and a second set of ear piercings but I'm just not really bothered.
This tattoo is art.
This tattoo expresses a meaning behind it.
I think people that have tattoos and piercings are brave to not be afraid to apply something permanent to their skin or have metal attached to their skin. It's fashion in a sense but I don't think it works for everybody and sometimes it doesn't work for anyone! Tattoos can symbol meaning as no one gets one for no reason. It is a symbolism of art to some people which is why they got that tattoo and that they also may find it links to a part of their life. Some people have tattoos to symbolise who they are or what they stand for - I think that is a massive point of why a majority of people have a tattoo.

Ear Piercings are feminine and subtle.
Lip piercings are bold.
When it comes to piercings I think it depends which part of the body gets pierced and whether it suits people as a whole or not. The difference in getting your ears pierced or your lip pierced is definitely a different story to each other because earrings can suit all females and depending on a man's style they can just about pull earrings off too. But a lip piercing doesn't suit everyone that gets it and it also depends what part of the lip too in my opinion. It is also a bold statement as it is placed on one of the main features of the face whereas earrings are more subtle in ways because they are placed at the sides of the face hidden more away when someone is at that person with with earrings.
Tattoos have been around for a long time and I think people will still get them in the future. I think the popularity of tattoos is still growing as I know so many people that aren't afraid to have one so why shouldn't more people want it too?
This scarification is art.
When it comes to scarification I do think it is a whole other level compared to tattoos because tattoos are more popular to have whereas scarring symbols, words, pictures etc. into your skin is much more shocking and painful process. You don't see someone with scarification on themselves everyday! I understand how people get tattoos as a statement of themselves but cutting your skin open to make that statement....just no. You shouldn't have to go to that much extreme to prove to everyone how important something is it to you or show who you are.

A Material I Chose

One of my first ideas I thought of was inspired by broken glass - I saw a photo of a model's face covered in what like broken glass or jagged looking jewels and it reminded me of a mosaic. I then thought of how I could turn my model into a mosaic. To create this I cut up blue and red coloured accetate into triangles of different shapes and sizes. I then applied them to the face using gelatin. I quite like the results as I can imagine if I covered the face along with these accetate shapes to create a mosaic and covering her face in a different colour - possibly white - underneath it could look like contemporary art work. I'm not 100% sure about it looking alien, maybe more in futeristic terms of robot? The only problem I had was that the gelatin didn't stick very well. If I wanted to develop this then maybe I could experiment with latex and see if that sticks better.

Class Work

When I was creating this texture it made me think of all different types of texture, colours and patterns I can use. The possibilities for creating an inhuman texture to the skin are endless! I did think that there was some more I could with this technique such as drawing some patterns into it and also show shape of the chickpeas underneath the clay more carefully. Looking at it without knowing how to create this I would think it would be such a complicated technique to do. But now that I do know how to do it, it is so simple and makes me think of the possibilities of creating something so eye catching with such simple and fun techniques.
