The image on the left is a man from the People of Kau. The woman in the right image is from the Surma Tribe. I think that their face painting creates an illusion as if those patterns have been dented into the face. They are both quite different patterns in comparison as well as the left image has a lot of paint on and the right has paint on that makes it look ver earthy, like her skin is mud.
